The main criticism is that Isaacson, whilst well documenting the personal life of Steve Jobs, fails to really understand his work (particularly that “Design is how it works” and the centrality of software). For this aspect he recommends reading Rob Walker’s 2003 New York Times Magazine profile on the creation of the iPod
